Tackling the Garden

When we first viewed the house it was touch and go as to whether there was too much to do. Not so much structural but just a lot of work,. Not that we were afraid of work but it is managing things and living with it as you do it. If you have a bigger house, that can be compartmentalized, living in 1 or 2 rooms whilst renovating others is easier, we know that what we did before.

But at this house there wasn’t scope to do that as it was much smaller.

But any decision to buy the place was made easier when we saw the garden.

Unusual for a terraced town house to have such a big garden. Like the house it was a mess but we saw the potential.

The previous owners had been very good gardeners, specializing in roses and clematis – so there were plenty of good plants there we just had to find them. |Its always a big decision, do you clear everything and start again or clear the rubbish and leave the plants to reveal themselves. We choose the latter.

Replaced with a nice shiny new one.

A man must have a shed

That started the bottom and middle part of the garden, next we were led to what lies at the bottom of the garden….

The Shed was fun, not really a challenge as once we had emptied it of mostly rubbish but some very useful gardening tools and bits and pieces, it pretty much fell down on its own.

We hope you’ve enjoyed and been inspired by some of our ideas.
We did all of the work we've shown you on a very tight budget, doing as much as we could ourselves. Contractors are expensive but you can still make savings by doing some work that they are overskilled to do. For example the old paving stones - I lifted them put them in a place where they could be collected and 1 day on freecycle and they were all collected and re-purposed saving us a fortune on contractors costs and skip hire to take them away.
Alway use the skills you have to do the work that contractors are overqualified to do, it will save you a small fortune.
Please get in touch and let us know what you think.
