Wellington Boot Rack
I had seen a few designs for different types of wellington boot rack so threw a few of those ideas together and came up with my own design, which is very very simple and very very cheap.
I already had a couple of shelf brackets recycled from a coat rack I made and I had various pieces of timber, sheets etc, ideal for this was a piece of oak from an old cupboard we had when we moved in to the house that we found in the summerhouse. You can use any timber, just remember itll be outside in most case, so will need painting or protecting.
Were fortunate enough to have a walled garden so I selected a spot for the rack to go. You could use a strong fence or shed that would work using this method.
Using the 2 brackets a made a simple shelf that was wide enough to cover the boots that will be hanging upside down.
I then attached this to the wall.
Measuring the distance between the 2 brackets attached to the wall, I worked out I could get 4 pairs of boots in the space allowing space between each individual boot and each pair, in this case 5 cms between each boot, 7 cms between the pair and 12 cms until the next pair of boots ( see diagram ) marking these space on the wall I drill a hole appx 4 cms deep. I then put a rawl plug in each hole and hammered in a 6 inch ( 150mm ) nail into each rawl plugged hole. To protect the boots I then place a piece of plastic pipe all cut to te same length, over the nails.
The result a simple rack to hold 4 pairs of boots and then only thing I had to buy was a pack of 150mm nails cost £3.50.
You can modify it by using different types of brackets and shelves.
We hope you’ve enjoyed and been inspired by some of our ideas.
We did all of the work we've shown you on a very tight budget, doing as much as we could ourselves. Contractors are expensive but you can still make savings by doing some work that they are overskilled to do. For example the old paving stones - I lifted them put them in a place where they could be collected and 1 day on freecycle and they were all collected and re-purposed saving us a fortune on contractors costs and skip hire to take them away.
Alway use the skills you have to do the work that contractors are overqualified to do, it will save you a small fortune.
